Did you know we have a morning storytime specifically geared towards infants ages birth through 12 months? Have you ever wondered what we do at Infant Storytime on Wednesday mornings? Wonder no longer! We strive to support families and their dedication to early literacy by providing babies with a wide range of lapsit activities at Infant Storytime. From scarves and shaker eggs to bounces and cuddles, baby will be engaged for the entire half hour of our program. About three-quarters of our time together is spent on singing, fingerplays, and lap rhymes. Singing and rhyming helps very young children become familiar with the differences in the many sounds that make up words. By understanding these differences and similarities, they are able to mimic and eventually partake in language and wordplay. Of course, singing, bouncing, and rhyming are also very, very fun! We also read books! Each Infant Storytime session features two books. They are different every week, and come from a wide range of authors and illustrators. We want to encourage all of our patrons, even babies, to get library cards and check out our great selection of books. We love meeting new friends and welcoming new faces to Infant Storytime. If you’re interested in participating in this fun, low-key program please join us on Wednesday mornings at 10am. No sign-up is required; just drop in to the Derry Public Library with your baby in tow! Check out some more photos below of this fun, baby-centered storytime.
