Hi, Miss Alexis! We’re so glad to have this chance to learn more about you and what you do. Can you please remind us of your job here in the Children’s Department and when you started working here?
I am a Children’s Librarian and I started in October 2014.
What is something you’ve done at the Derry Public Library that you’re particularly proud of?
I am most proud of my bulletin boards in the Children’s Room. I enjoy expressing my artistic and decorative talents…it’s a blast to do every month!
What is your favorite book to read or favorite activity to do at your Bedtime Stories program?
Any picture book that rhymes or I can use multiple voices and I like to do an interactive activity each week. The kids love helping me do felt board stories, feed a penguin a fish, pull animals out of George’s belly and make Rainbow Soup!
We’re assuming you’ve been a reader for life. So, what was your favorite book when you were ten years old? And if you haven’t always loved reading, what changed your mind?
I have been a “lifer” when it comes to reading and when I was ten it was all about Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. My favorite book was Socks. I remember making a Socks diorama out of my first pair of Dr. Scholl’s shoebox. The shoes were denim and wooden and began to splinter on the heel but I still wore them all the time.
When you’re not at the Derry Public Library, where are we most likely to find you? Please share something you like to do outside of work.
At Hannaford. My kids are teenagers.
Okay—now for the really important questions! One word answers, please. 🙂
Oh I just can’t do it in one word…please forgive me, I love to talk about myself!
Penguins or parakeets?
Penguins. They are dashing and the husbands are so supportive!
Laffy Taffy or a Milky Way?
This is so hard to answer! For years I stole every banana flavored Laffy Taffy from my kids’ Trick or Treat bags…but Milky Ways are just such a perfect candy bar. The sweetness of the chocolate hits your teeth and tongue instantly, then the nougat is a combination foam and creamy goodness, oh and the caramel is the perfect vehicle to enable the entire bite to slide easily down the gullet….ok it’s Milky Way!
A hike in the woods or a day in the city?
How about a trip to Michael’s?
Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders?
Are you kidding? Candy Land is my Iowa (see Field of Dreams).
Who is scarier: Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter) or The Grand High Witch (The Witches)?
I’m a very spiritual person and there is nothing more evil than the making of horcruxes.
Is Pinterest considered a genre yet? Let’s check the Urban Dictionary…
Author you just can’t get enough of these days?
I LOVE MO WILLEMS! And a special shout out to Pigeon he is my BAE (see a teenager).
An alien just landed and she wants to know the best thing about the library. In one sentence, what do you tell her?
Hey Alien Girl, come to one of our staff potlucks, it’s fun and delicious and we all have a great time together, and whatever you bring make sure “human parts” isn’t one of your ingredients.
I think that’s all! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Readers, if you’d like to ask Miss Alexis a question, post it in the comment section!
